I recently posted the PFDN list of prospects that represent the biggest risks in the 2009 NFL Draft. It is important to note that this does not mean I believe they will necessarily be busts. The players on the list are all very talented and likely day one selections. However, they all have some weaknesses that concern me and could result in them not living up to their draft status. There are some surprising big names on the list, but remember that every year about one-third of 1st round draft choices will disappoint. Do you remember how the consensus from the 2005 NFL Draft was how Alex Smith, Troy Williamson, Cedric Benson and Erasmus James were terrific prospects with bright NFL futures? How about Robert Gallery, Kenechi Udeze, Ahmad Carroll, J.P. Losman and Rashaun Woods from the 2004 NFL Draft? There is no shortage of 1st round selections that were not worth the money. You can read in the coming weeks PFDN’s scouting reports on these prospects.
